DURHAM, NC-November 4, 2019 – Sherrod Banks, Principal of The Banks Law Firm, announced the Banks Law Firm is celebrating its 25th anniversary. “We are grateful that we have had an opportunity to serve our community with legal guidance in a variety of practice areas,” said Banks. “Over the years, our reach has expanded to South Carolina and Virginia and we have opened additional offices in Charlotte, NC and Houston, TX.”

Attorneys and staff have a proven track record in affordable housing and community economic development law, business, civil litigation, colleges and universities, commercial real estate, employment law, FHA-insured financing, foreclosures, historic preservation tax credits, housing choice vouchers, low income housing tax credits, municipal finance, municipal corporations, nonprofit organizations, public housing law, and real property tax exemptions.

In November 2000, the Banks Foundation (a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization) was formed for the purpose of assisting families who are moving from welfare to work and from public housing to private homeownership. Over the years, the Foundation has provided down payment assistance to families who have qualified to purchase their first home.

Each year, since the Banks Foundation was formed, the Firm closed for two days to provide the volunteers necessary for The Triangle Golf Challenge, The Banks Foundation’s Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. The proceeds from The Triangle Golf Challenge provide down payment assistance for first time homebuyers who have matriculated from public assistance to private homeownership. In addition to the Banks Foundation, proceeds from the golf tournaments have been distributed to Communities in School, the Hayti Heritage Center and the Triangle Aphasia Project (TAP). It is the Firm’s intention to continue the Triangle Golf Tournament to benefit The Banks Foundation and other area charities.
