Imani D. Hutty is a Principal at The Banks Law Firm with the Firm’s Litigation practice group. He represents businesses, organizations, and individuals in complex civil litigation, government and internal investigations, and regulatory and compliance matters. Drawing on more than a decade of courtroom and investigative experience, Imani helps clients evaluate risk, develop practical strategies, and navigate disputes from their earliest stages through trial and resolution.

Imani’s litigation practice spans commercial and contract disputes, fraud and asset-recovery matters, employment litigation, housing-related disputes, and regulatory litigation involving highly regulated emerging industries. He has served as lead counsel in significant federal litigation involving novel constitutional and regulatory challenges to state enforcement action in highly regulated emerging industries. He conducts and advises on internal investigations involving suspected fraud, financial misconduct, and compliance failures. A member of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS), he brings particular depth to matters involving financial crime, money laundering, and cross-border enforcement. He also counsels businesses and organizations on artificial intelligence, data governance, and emerging technology — helping clients develop responsible AI policies, assess legal and regulatory exposure, and respond to issues involving algorithmic decision-making, consumer protection, and government oversight.

Before joining The Banks Law Firm, Imani served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where he led investigations involving digital platforms and artificial intelligence, consumer protection, market and government fraud, and financial crime, including domestic and international money laundering proceedings. He began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, prosecuting felony cases through every phase of criminal litigation.

Clients turn to Imani not only to litigate difficult matters, but also to understand what is at stake, identify a workable path forward, and make informed business decisions under pressure.
